Collioure, the pearl of the Vermeille coast
Collioure is a town in the Pyrénées-Orientales region with picture-postcard scenery. Known as the jewel of the Vermeille coast, the town impresses with its unspoiled nature and Mediterranean charm. Our campsite is located just 30 minutes away by car.
Every year, Collioure welcomes many tourists who come to discover this authentic village in the Occitanie region (formerly Languedoc-Roussillon). The town is famous for its anchovies and fishing port, but it has much more to offer. The renowned Banyuls vineyard, cultivated on terraces, produces excellent AOC wines.
The Vermeille coast stretches from Argelès-sur-Mer to the Spanish border. The meeting point between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees mountains offers breathtaking views. You can go scuba diving in the morning, sample Catalan cuisine at lunchtime, and go hiking in the mountains in the afternoon. It's no wonder that this coastline attracts visitors from all over the world.
Collioure, land of Art and History
Collioure is a town with undeniable charm. Its architecture is typical of the Romanesque style of Roussillon. It is rightly nicknamed the "City of Painters" thanks to its picturesque port and exceptional light. Many famous painters were inspired by the town, including Pablo Picasso, Maurice de Vlaminck, Georges Braque, and Salvador Dalí. It is also the birthplace of Fauvism, an early 20th-century art movement launched by André Derain and Henri Matisse.
The "Chemin du Fauvisme" is a tour of the city that allows you to discover reproductions of works of art. The Tourist Office offers guided tours from March to the end of October. It can also be interesting to stroll around the city and stop at galleries and art studios.
Finally, stop off at the Museum of Modern Art. In terms of historical monuments, you can visit the Church of Notre-Dame des Anges or the Royal Castle of Collioure.
